A look at what pediatric hospitalists think of gender bias By Edward Doyle February 3, 2026 Today's Hospitalist Share Summary Takeaways Listen Insight Report Clinical Scorecard Quiz Poll Top Institutions 1 Nearly one-third of pediatric hospitalists reported experiencing gender bias, predominantly among women. 2 Seventy-seven percent of pediatric hospitalists expressed career satisfaction, but female hospitalists reported lower satisfaction. 3 Women pediatric hospitalists were more likely to face exclusion from opportunities and lower pay compared to their male counterparts. 4 Forty-five percent of women perceived gender-specific biases, significantly higher than the 26.5% of men who reported similar perceptions. 5 The study concluded that a high percentage of women in a specialty does not protect against gender bias.
