Only 5.5% of patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) underwent lipoprotein(a) testing, despite guideline recommendations.

  • 2

Patients with premature ASCVD had higher Lp(a) testing rates (7%) and elevated median Lp(a) levels compared to those with non-premature ASCVD.

  • 3

Testing for Lp(a) increased by 55.8% overall and 75.5% in the premature ASCVD subgroup between 2018 and 2022.

  • 4

Patients tested for Lp(a) were younger, more often male, and had a higher prevalence of hyperlipidaemia and coronary artery disease.

  • 5

Higher Lp(a) levels were associated with increased likelihood of treatment with ezetimibe and PCSK9 inhibitors within three months post-testing.
