Protocol for a Randomized, Triple-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial Assessing Modified Ukgan-san in Individuals with Hwabyung and Associated Neurotic Symptoms

Hwabyung is a culture-related anger syndrome characterized by suppressed anger and somato-emotional symptoms, prevalent in East Asian contexts.

The study will assess the efficacy and safety of modified Ukgan-san in treating Hwabyung symptoms through a randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

A total of 104 adult participants diagnosed with Hwabyung will be recruited and randomly assigned to receive either modified Ukgan-san or placebo.

Primary outcomes will include changes in Hwabyung symptom severity, while secondary outcomes will assess anger, depression, anxiety, and heart rate variability.

The trial has been approved by the Institutional Review Board and registered with the Clinical Research Information Service in South Korea.
