The study compares clinical characteristics, imaging, diagnostic delays, microbiological test positivity, and respiratory co-detection patterns in non-HIV immunocompromised and non-immunocompromised patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

This retrospective study includes inpatients at China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing from January 1, 2020, through June 30, 2025.

  • 3

All included patients have liquid culture-confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis, with Mycobacterium tuberculosis detected using the BACTEC MGIT 960 system.

Immunocompromised status is defined by specified immunosuppressive treatment, organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, solid tumor with chemotherapy within 5 years, hematological malignancy, or primary immunodeficiency.

Health system delay is the interval from first medical contact to the earliest positive respiratory microbiological result. More than 14 days defines long health system delay.
